  • US President Donald Trump stumbled while boarding Air Force One, triggering online mockery, especially given his previous criticism of Joe Biden for a similar incident
  • Trump was accompanied by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, amid growing political tensions and a recent public fallout with billionaire Elon Musk
  • The stumble came as his administration faced mounting pressure over mass protests in Los Angeles following controversial immigration enforcement

Donald Trump’s very public fallout with tech billionaire Elon Musk may now be tripping him up, quite literally.

The US president was caught on camera stumbling while ascending the steps of Air Force One, a moment that quickly spread across social media.

Though Trump recovered almost instantly, the incident triggered a wave of online mockery, largely because of his own past ridicule of his predecessor, Joe Biden, for a similar fall.

Trump was travelling with his Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, who also suffered a similar stumble.

Trump did not address the stumble, but the internet wasted no time drawing comparisons. Critics posted side-by-side clips of the two presidents tripping on the same aircraft steps, with some calling it poetic justice.

Below are some of the reactions:

SaintLaurant:

"Had this been Biden, there would be Breaking News all over tv media networks right now."

@olllllo_Jeep:

"🤡😬🤣 I STRONGLY ARGUE the age limit needs to be in place. If you cant be a president until or minimum 35, there needs to be a cap on its too late as of 60. Sorry 60 year old plus, you're too dam old. Maybe we need one of those stair lift chairs or a luggage escalator for these."

@1jack_1jewell:

"Must be Biden’s fault he tripped! 🤣🤣🤣."

@RonaldH72994014:

"I'm surprised he hasn't replaced those stairs with a portable escalator of some kind."

@RooseveltTimes:

"It is always a mistake to make fun of others for their mishaps, because one day, those same misfortunes can visit you. Trump never learned this lesson."

@Mac_Gann:

"Everyone has done it at some point. EVERYONE."

The moment comes as Trump’s political landscape grows increasingly rocky.

Protests in Los Angeles against Trump's deportations

That pressure has been most visible in Los Angeles, where his administration faces outrage over aggressive immigration raids by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.

The operations sparked mass protests across the city, with demonstrators decrying the raids as excessive and targeting vulnerable communities.

According to Al Jazeera, security forces used tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse protesters in key areas, including the Edward R. Roybal Federal Building, the Metropolitan Detention Centre, and the 101 Freeway.

Dozens of people, many believed to be undocumented immigrants, were reportedly detained.

In response, Trump authorised the deployment of National Guard troops to help manage the unrest.

Why did Trump split with Elon Musk?

Trump's split with Musk, once a vocal supporter, has become another symbol of deeper fractures within his circle of allies, just as he navigates intensifying scrutiny and unrest across the country.

Their dramatic rift erupted following Musk’s strong opposition to Trump’s flagship tax and spending bill.

Both men took to their respective social media platforms, Trump on Truth Social and Musk on X, where they traded barbs in a tense back-and-forth that revealed the breakdown of their once-productive political relationship.
