Career Path

Kalonzo Musyoka is a Kenyan politician who has served as the leader of the Wiper Democratic Movement-Kenya (WDM-K) since 2008. He has held a number of high-level positions in the Kenyan government, including Minister of Foreign Affairs (1993-1998), Vice President of Kenya (2008-2013), and presidential running mate in the 2013 and 2017 general elections.

Early life and education

Musyoka was born on December 24, 1953, in Tseikuru, Kitui County, Kenya. He attended Meru School and the University of Nairobi, where he studied law. He was admitted to the bar in 1978.

Political career

Musyoka entered politics in the early 1980s, and he was elected to the Kenyan Parliament in 1985. He served as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1993 to 1998, and he was appointed Vice President of Kenya in 2008.

Musyoka formed an alliance with Raila Odinga in which he was his running mate in the 2013 and 2017 general elections. They were defeated both times by Uhuru Kenyatta.

In 2022, he was part of the Azimio alliance that backed Raila's presidency, which lost to President William Ruto.

Peace negotiations and diplomatic engagements

Musyoka is a strong advocate for peace and stability in the East African region. He has been involved in a number of peace negotiations, including the mediation of the South Sudan civil war. He is also a member of the African Union High-Level Implementation Panel on Sudan and South Sudan.

Family and personal life

Musyoka is married to Pauline Musyoka, and they have four children. He is a devout Christian and a member of the Catholic Church.
