When did APS Bomet FC get promoted?

APS Bomet FC were promoted for the first time earlier this month after finishing second in the National Super League (NSL) behind Nairobi United.

They will play top-flight football for the first time in the 2025/26 season after suffering a heartbreak two seasons ago.

Bomet had earned a promotion in 2022 when the caretaker committee was running football. When FKF was brought back, they were sent back to the second tier alongside Fortune Sacco.

Bomet refused to play in the NSL and were relegated to the third tier as a result, but have now earned back-to-back promotions.

What did Kipchumba Murkomen do?

On X, Murkomen announced that he has been selected as the new patron of APS Bomet as they prepare for their maiden FKF Premier League season.

The former Elgeyo Marakwet senator said DIG-APS Gilbert Masengeli asked him to take up the role.

"We will support the team to make an impact in the Kenya Premier League by improving their training facilities, equipment and mobility, and meeting other requirements," Murkomen wrote.
"The team promised to win the league in 4 years, and following the victory of the Kenya Police FC and the Kenya Police Bullets FC this season, it's achievable."

What did APS Bomet fans say about Murkomen?

Fans were not pleased with Murkomen becoming the club's patron. The fans have reportedly released a statement to express their frustration.

"We, the devoted supporters of APS Bomet FC, wish to express our total rejection and condemnation of the decision by the club’s management to appoint Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen as the club patron," a statement shared on X read.

The fans added that they cannot allow the Cabinet secretary to be associated with their club after his controversial statements, in which he appeared to ask the police to use lethal force.

They also accused him of being allegedly involved in corruption and highlighted that the club is a community asset.

Kenya Police FC wins FKF Premier League

Earlier, TUKO.co.ke reported that Kenya Police FC won the FKF Premier League title ahead of Gor Mahia.

In 34 games, they won 18 and lost five. A defeat to Kakamega Homeboyz earlier last month temporarily threatened their title hopes, but they bounced back and made history.

They were promoted to the top flight in the 2020/21 campaign and finished 10th in their first season. They followed it up with two top-five finishes.
