Is Fred Matiang'i ready for the 2027 presidential race?

In his speech, the former Interior CS reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive leadership and acknowledged the growing influence of Kenyans abroad in national affairs.

“We cannot build a future for Kenya without the diaspora. Your voice matters. Your presence counts," Matiang'i said.

Matiang'i hit out at President William Ruto's Kenya Kwanza administration for undoing some of the policies initiated by the previous regime.

However, he encouraged Kenyan teachers not to lose hope, arguing that after the 2027 poll, the country will be in the right hands.

"We will get together; we will put ourselves together and ensure that as we move forward to solve this issue, we are a state country, we have sufficient resources to move our country to the next level. Some of these challenges we face are momentary. This is not child's play. Running a country is a very serious business, as you have seen," the former CS added.

In his powerful speech, the former CS paid tribute to the Kenyan youth killed during the Gen Z protests in June 2024.

"For us in Kenya, it's now becoming what we consider the Gen Z month. Let us also observe two minutes of silence in honour of the lives of our young people we lost during the Gen Z uprising last year," he said.

During the forum, organisers unveiled posters branding Matiang'i as a “visionary leader” under hashtags like #MatiangiThe6th, #MrFixIt, and #KenyaDiaspora2027.

The posters signalled both Matiang'i's presidential intentions and a campaign narrative anchored in reform and global engagement.

Can Fred Matiang'i win in 2027?

In other news, on Monday, June 2, Kenyans got a glimpse of Matiang'i's preparedness after a campaign truck branded in Jubilee Party colours was spotted.

The truck, which had Matiang'i's image, was parked outside the Jubilee Party headquarters, signalling his active preparations for the 2027 presidential race.

The vehicle, adorned with Jubilee's red and white colours, bore the slogan 'Mbele Pamoja', a phrase popular with the former ruling party.

Matiang'i recently announced plans for a nationwide tour to rally support for his presidential bid, with the Jubilee Party having officially endorsed his candidature.
