A woman from Kikuyu is inconsolable after her husband became a casualty of the chaotic maandamano.

Kevin Njau, a young man with a growing family, was among those killed following clashes between anti-riot police and protestors.

However, Njau was not among the demonstrators. He was caught in the crossfire as tensions between police and protesters escalated.

How old was Kevin Njau?

He tragically lost his life on his way home, leaving his family devastated—especially his wife, who was overcome with agony.

“Kevin Njau’s wife collapses after seeing her husband’s body at the morgue.
Twenty-three-year-old Kevin was shot in the head yesterday as he was coming from work in the Kikuyu area,” read a tweet from human rights activist and lawyer Hussein Khalid.

He also shared a heartbreaking video showing Njau’s wife leaving the morgue after viewing her husband’s body.

Who accompanied Njau's wife to the morgue?

She was accompanied by two women who tried to console her during the difficult moment.

However, she refused to be comforted, overcome by the pain of losing her husband.

As she exited the building, her legs gave out and she fainted. The two women—one on each side—rushed to assist her.

Hussein and a few other men stepped in to help carry her to a safe place, giving her time to recover as she tried to process the trauma.

“Kevin leaves behind a wife and two children—one two years old, and another just two months old,” Hussein added.

Kenyans on X react to Njau's death

Netizens expressed their grief and outrage, with many deeply moved by the widow’s pain, which served as a reminder of the tragic toll of the protests.

Blatta001:

“Shot and killed by a police officer. These are the criminal acts we’re fighting against.
We will resist this murderous regime to our last breath.”

Chaguas1:

“Ooii Ngai Waiguru, touch the hearts of all those who are in pain after the shootings and beatings yesterday—just for speaking up.
To the police and politicians: how do you feel watching such videos? Maybe nothing. But imagine if those mourning were your own.”

antony_oundo:

“This is heartbreaking. My condolences to the family. God is on our side.
Let’s start a Paybill to support the families of our fallen heroes and heroines, and those who were injured. Empathy and love for our people and country must be our guiding motto.”

geriatricabound:

“Shot and killed by a police officer—an employee of the state, a peacekeeper meant to protect Kenyans. Shame!
If she sets up a school fund, I’ll contribute. She’s far too young to be left to raise two kids alone.”

jkmathia1:

“God should punish this government and its top leaders. Why bring so much pain to families?
What the hell? I think we have devils leading us.”
