The beautiful young girl was laid to rest in a sombre ceremony at her village home in Kitui county.
Her mother, Ann Syovinya, broke her silence for the first time, eulogising her beloved lastborn. She broke down in tears as she recalled the painful memories she had shared with her daughter.
What did Amanda Mutheu’s mum say at her burial?
Ann shared that she had a strong bond with Amanda, compared with her other two children, whom her mother helped raise.
“Amanda was my lastborn, and she’s a child I connected so deeply with. When I gave birth to my first and second children, my mum was there she did everything for me. But by the time Amanda came, my mum had already passed away. I literally did everything for her," Ann said.
She explained that it was through Amanda that she came to fully understand what it means to raise a child from birth.
The heartbroken mother tearfully shared how close she had become with Amanda, so much so that even her friends would ask what they talked about so often.
“We were always together. When she didn’t have school, she would follow me to work, to church and we always had something to talk about. It was like I was talking to an adult,” she recalled.
Ann added that losing Amanda felt like losing a part of herself, leaving her in unbearable pain.
“I don’t know if I can hold on anymore. Even though she lived for just five years, I feel like she lived 100 years. She was the kind of child who, if you met her on the road and didn’t say hello, she’d follow you and insist on a greeting," added Ann.
