The suspect, identified as James Obura, reportedly attacked and physically assaulted his father, fatally injuring him before fleeing the scene.

Why did James Obura kill his father?

According to the Daily Monitor, police officers from Pallisa District in Uganda said that Obura had a long-standing dispute with his father over his separation from his mother.

Wilfred Kyempasa, spokesperson for the Bukedi North regional police, confirmed the incident and explained that the suspected motive was built-up resentment over the domestic issue.

Kyempasa stated that Obura is currently on the run and that investigations are ongoing. Police are making efforts to trace and arrest the suspect.

Where was Joseph Opulusi attacked?

Kyempasa further reported that Joseph was herding his goats when his son ambushed him and repeatedly punched him in the head.

“The victim, writhing in pain, raised an alarm and called for help. A few locals came to his rescue,” he said.

Joseph did not die at the scene. He managed to make his way to Gogonyo Police Post, where he reported the incident before collapsing shortly afterwards.

“He was rushed to a local clinic, then transferred to Pallisa General Hospital, and later referred to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on the night of June 17,” said Kyempasa.

The incident was initially recorded as an assault, but after Joseph's death, police upgraded the case to murder.

Authorities called on citizens to help in locating the suspect so that justice can be served for the deceased old man.
