Social media users' hearts went out to Kariuki's mother as they penned moving messages in the comment section.

Wangechi Kariuki:

"A mother dies so many times before the real death... The news of her son's death was itself. Quick recovery to your son, Mama."

Min Grant Sam:

"As a mother raising boys, I've told them over and over again that the world is so cruel to the boy child. I've told them never to give in to peer pressure. I've made sure that every incident that happens to a poor boy child, I show them the videos. May God give this mother comfort."

G.K.K

"This is what our mothers are going through, yet some politicians keep dragging them to the streets to fight with askaris. God, take control. Pole sana, Mama."

Kipchirchir Kimutai:

"The mother of Boniface Kariuki is overwhelmed, helpless, and even sick inside following the incident in Nairobi county. We look to you, O God, for your mercy and your power. Help us to accept what we cannot change and to completely trust in your great healing to come, despite the depravity of the world around us.
Remind us that while we may not be able to change the world, you have given us the grace to sustain our trust in you, our Glorious and Merciful Healer. And may we never be ashamed in our nation 🇰🇪. May we never become bitter. May our sorrows lead us from strength to strength."

Is Boniface Kariuki alive?

In another story, Kariuki’s father, Jonah, painfully recounted watching the video of his son being shot by the police.

Jonah said that, at first, he refused to believe the young man lying in a pool of blood was his son.

However, reality soon dawned on him—it was indeed his son lying helpless on the floor.

Jonah further confirmed that his son is alive.
