Jeridah was busy making ugali in the kitchen when her daughters, Norah and Neema, returned home from school.
Norah could not hide her joy upon spotting the African meal her mother was preparing.
"Is that ugali, sukuma, and meat?" the former Alliance Girls High School student enthusiastically asked.

Her sibling, Neema, did not look thrilled with the meal and could not hide the disappointment on her face.
With her short dreadlocked hair, the young girl asked if there was any other food, as she did not want to eat ugali.
"Ugali? I’m not eating ugali. Is there something else?" she asked, anxiously looking at her mother.
Her mum laughed, pausing momentarily to look at her young and audacious daughter.
What was Jeridah Andayi's news to her daughter?
Jeridah said she had some news for her and asked Neema if she wanted to hear it now or later. The young girl replied, "Now."
"Neema, everyone is having ugali, sukuma, and meat. You will not leave," Jeridah told Neema, who was attempting to leave the room.
Neema made a peace sign as she slowly exited the kitchen area, leaving her mum and older sibling alone.
"Respect food in my house. Everyone is enjoying ugali. See you at the table," Jeridah said as her daughter walked away, looking puzzled.
