  • Luciana Eghwa thought that she had found a helper at a time when she was stranded with her ailing baby at the Moi Referral Hospital in Voi
  • After learning Luciana could not afford treatment due to SHIF restrictions, the woman offered to take her across town to have the baby's flu treated at Ndovu Health Centre
  • At the health centre, the woman asked Luciana to go and look for change, and when she returned, the 'Good Samaritan' was missing, as was her baby
  • Luciana and her mother Monica Msae have been frantically looking for the lost baby and reported to the police station, but so far, they have not been lucky

Why couldn't Luciana treat baby with SHIF?

On May 27, Luciana had taken her ailing baby to the Moi Referral Hospital in Voi, and since he is not registered on the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), he could not be treated.

"I could not afford the treatment and could not add him to mine because I had not carried the line I used to register," she said.

"I lost him on Tuesday, a stranger took my newborn and I have no way of finding him because don't know where to start," she told Nation.

As she was mulling over what to do, a calm and friendly woman appeared next to her and suggested they go to Ndovu Health Centre, a smaller facility on the outskirts of Voi town.

How did the woman take Luciana's baby?

Luciana still needed her line to register her kid at the facility. Her new Good Samaritan gave her KSh 200, and she went to look for change. When she returned, the woman and her baby were missing.

"No one knew she had taken my child, or that we were strangers to each other," said the distraught Luciana.

According to CCTV footage, the woman was seen in the maternity ward making calls. Luciana and her mother, Monica Msae, started to look for her frantically and were told that she boarded a Matatu at Caltex, but alighted at Mtito Andei.

"Since this incident happened we have not been eating, we are asking well-wishers to help us rescue our baby," said Luciana.

Since the incident happened, the two have been clinging to hope that the woman will be identified and her baby rescued.

According to Voi Police Commandant Fredrick Kinaibei, the case was reported at the station, and they have proper leads to help them in the investigation.

Isiolo couple reunited with baby

In a previous story, Kenneth Mwirigi and Frida Gakii were relieved after reuniting with their baby in Meru county.

The happy couple shared how a cunning woman allegedly stole their four-month-old baby from their house.

After searching for their child frantically, the tables finally turned for the Isiolo couple and they reunited with their little child.
