In a video shared by Inooro FM, a crowd is seen gathered at the dam trying to fish out the body of the young girl.

"We have been looking for that child the whole night and in the end we found her in the dam. It looks like she has been brought there because we had passed through there when we were looking for her and we did not see her," said Frank Mugane.

"That means that she was brought here late in the night or at dawn. We want justice for that child from the government," he added.

Another resident, identified as Wairimu Stephen, said that the little girl was sent to the shop at 2 pm in the afternoon, when most people deem it to be safe.

"She got to the shop but she never made it home," she said.

What is Gwa Chobe's message to the government?

It also emerged that the child got lost here near her home and there is no forest in the neighbourhood.

The saddest part is the brutal way she'd been killed and her clothes were taken.

"The government says that they will do a post mortem but we know that when people are killed and then the government conducts post mortems, they end up saying that they have found nothing, saying there is no evidence that was found," she alleged.

"The question is, will our kids get killed as they say there is no evidence? The first thing you see from that child, it is very clear that she had been taken by force, you see that her neck meaning that the person who did that is a very disrespectful person," she added.

The 7-year-old, who had been reported missing, was sadly found dead and buried in the house of a man identified as Nicholas Julius Macharia.

The suspect is now at Nyeri Police Station following the brutal murder of the young girl.
