The devastated mother expressed both relief and agony after her son, Gilbert Ojiambo, was found dead after many days.
He was discovered more than ten days after being reported missing by his family, who are now struggling to come to terms with his tragic demise.
Ojiambo's relatives recounted the middle-aged man's final moments before the shocking news sent waves of fear and grief through the village.
When did Ojiambo go missing?
“He went missing on Friday, May 16, after attending a funeral. After the funeral, he said he was going to an entertainment joint to enjoy himself and catch up with friends. He had a good time with them, but when it was time to return home, he never made it,” a family member said.
Several residents gathered at the police station after Ojiambo’s body was retrieved from a stream.
Painful wails and screams filled the air as the community mourned his unfortunate death.
Ojiambo’s mother was inconsolable. She blamed alcohol for her son's death and made an emotional appeal for help.
Ojiambo's mum's appeal to government
“I am calling on the government to help me. Alcohol is too much in Mundulisia. As a mother, if I appeal on my own, I cannot succeed. Please, government, help me. I am only a mother, and I am a single mum. I have been looked down upon because of that. Government, please help me. I have lost my son Gilbert,” she said tearfully, surrounded by sympathetic residents.
When Ojiambo’s body was found and retrieved from the stream, some parts were missing, raising more questions than answers.
Residents were visibly disturbed as they witnessed the body being loaded into a police vehicle, allegedly headed to the mortuary.
They protested at the police station, expressing their anger and frustration over the lack of proper security and demanding justice for the slain Ojiambo.
