The footage, which has since gone viral, has sparked outrage and renewed calls for stricter road safety enforcement.

How rider was run over by truck

Sikika Road Safety shared a video of the horrifying incident believed to have occurred along one of the busy highways, although the exact location was not disclosed.

In the video, the boda boda rider is seen navigating traffic when the truck, speeding and seemingly out of control, barrels into him.

What followed was a chilling moment as the impact sent the motorcycle spiralling around before being trapped under the giant wheels.

After hitting the rider, the truck lost control and careened into the vehicles in the queue before coming to a stop.

One of the other smaller trucks was violently pushed to the left side in the accident that left many of those who watched the video cringing with fear.

It was evident from the footage that the injuries sustained were too severe, with many Kenyans concluding the worst.

His identity is, however, yet to be publicly released.

Social media reactions

Kenyans have flooded social media platforms with messages of grief, anger, and frustration over the incident.

Some blamed the rider for lacking situational awareness as he wandered into the path of the speeding truck.

Others blamed the truck driver for speeding on a road that had evident traffic ahead. Despite the train of thought, netizens agreed that the fatal accident could have been avoided.

Patrick Njeru said:

"This is how bodabodas ride. Imagine if he were carrying two passengers like they always do."

John Adroind said:

"Before we blame the boda guy, where was the milk tanker heading with such speed and in a traffic snarl-up?"

Simon Kamau

"That's why I even fret about the idea of choosing bodaboda as a way of transport. What if he had a pillion passenger?"

Chebuche Ke said:

"The video is so horrific and disturbing where the Brookside truck runs over a boda boda rider, I don't know if it was a brake failure or what was wrong."

Eunice N. Joy said:

"Dear Lord, as we go out to work, we do not know what lies ahead of us, go before us, satisfy us with long life, let us go and return back under your mercies, pre-mature deaths will not be our portion. We shall not die but live long in this land, to enjoy your blessings."

Boda boda riders, who form a critical part of Kenya’s transport network, are often among the most vulnerable on the roads.

According to the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), over 1,000 motorcyclists lost their lives in road accidents last year alone, with many more injured.

Boda boda rider survives

At first glance, it appeared as if the boda boda had perished in the accident due to the severity of the crash.

However, he miraculously survived and was rushed to the Kenyatta Teaching and Referral Hospital.

His family and friends announced this on social media, while seeking financial help for his treatment.

"We are now appealing for financial assistance to help offset his rising medical bills as treatment continues. Any contribution, no matter the amount, will be deeply appreciated," Essy Elvis said on Facebook.

Another accident reported at Githurai 45 black spot

Meanwhile, Githurai 45 once again turned into a scene of tragedy as a motorbike, two saloon cars, and a lorry collided along the busy Thika Superhighway.

Eyewitnesses at the scene reported scenes of horror and distress, however, there are still no official details about the casualties.

The incident occurred barely a month after over five lives were lost at the same spot when a matatu rammed into roadside hawkers.

In the wake of the accident, one of the major demands by residents was the installation of speed bumps to slow down vehicles approaching the stretch.
