The trust donated KSh 30,000 towards her treatment and care, bringing renewed hope just days before she is scheduled to sit for her Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) licensing examinations.

What is Purity Nkatha ailing from?

Purity, who completed her nursing studies at Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), Nyeri, has been fighting systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) since she was diagnosed in January 2021.

The disease has taken a heavy toll on her health and finances, leaving her physically weak and unable to access the essential drugs, supplements, and specialised diet that help manage the condition.

In an earlier emotional appeal, she shared how she had missed crucial rheumatology clinic appointments, survived on the goodwill of friends and strangers, and had exhausted her medical cover.

Despite her challenges, Purity remained hopeful and appealed to well-wishers to help her stay on track as she prepared for her final NCK exams set for May 21.

How much did well-wisher give Purity?

Her prayers were answered when Miriti Trust made the generous KSh 30,000 donation days after TUKO.co.ke aired her story.

The support will go a long way in covering the cost of vital medications, supplements, and basic needs to help stabilise her health in time for the exams.

“This is a miracle for which I will always be grateful,” Purity said with heartfelt emotion. “May God do them good.”

Her gratitude was not just for the financial support, but for the renewed strength and encouragement the gesture gave her.

About Michelle Makena Miriti Trust

With her rehearsal scheduled for tomorrow, she is now focusing her energy on preparing mentally and physically for the exams.

“May God now strengthen me for my rehearsal tomorrow and subsequently grant me success in my exams for His glory,” she added.

During her final college exams, she sat for her papers while in critical condition — an effort that saw her perform well despite the odds.

Reached for comment, Jane Miriti told TUKO.co.ke that she started Michelle Makena Miriti Trust in memory of her daughter, who succumbed to lupus in 2020.

"We do awareness, and our future goal once we are fully established is to support needy lupus patients in whatever capacity we can," she shared.

Miriti added that although the organisation is currently young, they run their activities through self-funding and fundraisers.

Purity’s story of extraordinary resilience

Purity's determination to become a nurse is fueled not only by a passion for the profession but also by her own experience as a patient.

She wants to serve others with the same compassion and support she has received. With just days left before the exams, Purity is still in need of continued support.

While the donation from Miriti Trust has given her a significant push, her health condition requires ongoing management.
