In a public statement issued by his lawyer, Wahome Thuku, the family revealed that Ndiangui made contact with a relative on Tuesday evening, July 1, from an undisclosed location.
Where was Ndiangui Kinyagia?
According to the statement, Ndiangui said he had gone into hiding after learning that officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) were pursuing him over unspecified criminal allegations.

Thuku thanked Kenyans at home and abroad for their unwavering support during what he described as a trying period for the family.
The development comes amid intense public concern and a court directive ordering senior security officers to account for Ndiangui’s whereabouts.
His resurfacing has stirred widespread reactions, especially in the wake of rising concerns over abductions and allegations of politically motivated enforced disappearances in the country.
How did Kenyans react after Ndiangui's resurfacing?
Among the concerned Kenyans was activist Boniface Mwangi, who condemned Ndiangui’s actions, calling them criminal and deceptive.
Mwangi also accused Ndiangui’s family of misleading the Law Society of Kenya into filing a habeas corpus application, despite being aware of his safety.
"What Ndiangui Kinyagia has done is wrong and criminal. An entire country was fighting for his release, and praying for his safety, thinking he was abducted, but all this time, he was in hiding! Shame on him and his family for misleading an entire nation," he said.

Joshua Onyango
"So it is not abduction? It is not Ruto? It is not DCI?"
Lucy Kangaru Nganga
"Why today, when the DCI boss was to appear in court at the same time 11am. Am not buying that nonsense."
Philip Ouma
"Politicians want to cause fear among the people."
Mpoe Taraiya
"Is this some sort of joke? Do we realise what this does to the credibility of those who've been genuinely abducted? The Gov't just got another out."
Njogu Wa Nganga
"The DCI have coerced him to cook that story of 'self-abduction' to manage public outrage. I believe that man was abducted, and it's no coincidence that the DCI director was to appear today in court to reveal his whereabouts."
Nungari Wa Muchai Ceo
"Thank God! Drama za tauni."
Lawi Otieno
"As a law-abiding citizen, he should present himself to DCI accompanied by his lawyers so that DCI can obey court orders given by Justice Mwita, who said that they should produce him dead or alive. It will be good for all."
Paul Obel
"So the DCI were not lying by saying they don't know his whereabouts, when most of you were saying that he was abducted. I now believe that the opposition has been spreading lies against the state and the president."
Was Ndiangui in the company of women?
Meanwhile, Wahome strongly dismissed claims that Ndiangui was last seen with a young man and two women, insisting they had no ties to the family.
He questioned whether authorities had made any genuine attempt to identify the individuals allegedly seen with Ndiangui.
At the time, the family urged the police and DCI to focus on locating him first, arguing that investigating his whereabouts should take priority over legal action.
