One man is seen stuffing a stolen item into his trousers as others push through the narrow doorway to gain entry.

Voices in the background can be heard shouting “rusha,” a Kiswahili word meaning “throw,” urging those inside to toss laptops out, which one man does.

Amid the chaos, shelves collapse, likely injuring some of the looters as they scramble for goods.

The theft continues for several minutes, with some men climbing onto shelves in an attempt to strip the shop bare.

Despite the looting and the sound of gunshots in the background, no one is seen intervening.

Why were there protests in Nairobi?

The demonstrations were sparked by the death of blogger Albert Ojwang, who died while in police custody.

Outraged citizens took to the streets demanding justice and the resignation of Deputy Inspector-General of Police Eliud Lagat, who later stepped aside to allow for an impartial investigation.

However, the protests have turned increasingly violent, with reports of civilians suffering gunshot wounds further fuelling public anger.

Activists allege that government-linked goons have infiltrated the protests, looting property and endangering the lives of peaceful demonstrators.

Netizens react to Nairobi CBD looting

Kenyans online condemned the violence and questioned police inaction, with some expressing despair over business losses and rising lawlessness.

Mollena Atieno:

“People might have to turn to spiritual means for justice. In some cases, only curses will do. Some behaviours must end.”

Michael Mutunga:

“Activists, why aren’t you speaking out about this? Or is activism only about clashes with the police?”

Hon. Favour Aluda:

“Ngai! This is terrible, this is not what we’re fighting for.”

James Mwawasi:

“What happened to the NYS? And your governor supposedly has a list. Has he paid them?”

Collins Ndua:

“Sadly, they looted in full view of the police.”

Elvis Bwire:

“Business is hard these days. Sometimes, all you can do is sit, cry, count your losses, and try to move on.”

TUKO.co.ke reported that Suba North MP, Millie Odhiambo, told Parliament that the man who was shot by a police officer during Tuesday's protests was from her constituency.

She described the officer’s actions as reckless and irresponsible, arguing that such acts of brutality undermine the progress made by the government.

The man was shot after being accosted by two officers who were supposed to be maintaining peace during the anti-government protests.

Reports indicate he survived the gunshot and was taken to the hospital, where he underwent surgery.
