How did suspects plan to kill Bosongo Hospital patient?
The nurse from Nyangena Hospital was accused of sending two men to a medical intern at Bosongo Hospital with orders to inject Jacob Moseti with a fatal drug.
According to a statement seen by TUKO.co.ke, authorities said the intern was promised KSh 10,000 to take part in the deadly plan.
"The arrested nurse Fiona Mogere works at Nyangena Hospital. She sent two young men with an unknown killer drug to Bosongo Hospital to bribe a medical student at Bosongo Hospital with KSh 10,000 to inject the 82-year-old patient," the police statement read in part.
Moseti recalled two men entering his hospital room, appearing confused about who their target was, which created a tense and suspicious atmosphere.
"We told them to go to the reception and inquire about the details of the person they are looking for if they don't know him," Moseti said.
The two men reportedly carried an insulin syringe filled with an unknown drug intended to kill Moseti.
"Faith Mogere, a Kisii female adult aged 25 years has been arrested as an accomplice to the offence. It is suspected that the said Fiona recruited one of the suspects and handed him the unknown substance in the insulin syringe to infuse into the body of a patient, namely Jacob Nyangau Moseti," the police statement read in part.
The medical intern assigned to carry out the act was instructed to film himself injecting the patient as proof of completing the task.
However, the request unsettled the intern, who carefully reconsidered his involvement in the plot.
"The student medic refused and instead reported the matter to administration who swiftly called DCI to arrest the suspects," the police added.
The men have been arrested in connection with the plot. During police questioning, they identified the 25-year-old nurse as the one who provided the syringe.
Moseti, fortunate to be alive, believes the attempt on his life may stem from a long-standing family dispute, with some relatives accusing him of witchcraft.
The suspects, including the nurse, will remain in police custody for 14 days as authorities continue investigating the motive behind their plot.
Moseti and the Bible in bed
As the three arrested suspects were reportedly plotting to end the life of Moseti, the God-fearing church elder was holding a Bible close to his chest, speaking to his Maker in low tones, hoping for a second chance at life.
He flipped through the pages of the Holy Book in a desperate move to find a verse or two that would soothe his weary soul and reassure him of a future outside the confines of the ward.
A few metres from his hospital bed, his alleged plotters were equally flipping through the pages of their script, in another desperate and last-minute ditch to end the tragic play without applause, and vanish in thin air.
As fate would have it, the wind of confusion seemingly blew the script away before it could be mastered, leaving the alleged actors exposed.
