Speaking on the floor of the National Assembly on Thursday, May 29, Kemei revealed that she took it upon herself to return the said woman to the track to her potential after the marriage she was in proved a failure.

How Kericho MP rescued woman from early marriage

According to Kemei, the young woman was married off when she was still a teenager and gave birth to two children while in the marriage.

The lawmaker suggested that the mother of two longed for an opportunity to return to school after life hardships pushed her into marriage.

Having seen her potential and ability to make it in academics, Kemei enrolled the young lady in her Usawa Kwa Wote programme, an educational initiative targeting learners from low-income households.

She was admitted to Kenegut Secondary School, where she wrote her 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination.

Despite being out of school for a while, the young mother posted a fairly impressive performance.

She scored a mean grade of C+, securing her place in a public university.

"I am happy to report that this is a school that is doing well, students are disciplined, and teachers are doing great. Last year, I had one of the students whom I sponsored as a teen mother, and she is joining the university. She scored a C+, and she has two children out of marriage. She decided to go back to school because of the programme I call Usawa Kwa Wote. So I'm very proud of the school and the girl child, and I pray that all students do well," Kemei said.

Kemei's initiative in changing the lady's life came months after her colleague from Keiyo South took the same.

Jelagat Maiyo, who performed well in the 2010 KCSE exams, had yet to pursue further studies 14 years later despite achieving a mean grade of B.

On his 41st birthday, Kimaiyo decided to make a difference in her life.

Along with the sponsorship, he also committed to assisting her in securing employment.

How Gideon Kimaiyo came to rescue of needy Form One girl

Earlier, Kimaiyo had stepped in to sponsor the education of a disadvantaged girl who arrived at school with two goats as payment for her Form One admission.

The student had earned a spot at Queen of Peace Secondary in Marakwet East and was accompanied by her mother, who had hoped to cover the fees using their livestock.

They arrived carrying a trunk, a used mattress, and a bucket—their only possessions for the school entry.

Despite the girl not being from his constituency, Kimaiyo pledged to support her education for the full four years.
