Speaking on Tuesday, May 21, at PCEA Nakuru West, during the funeral service of Charity Muthoni Kiarie, the Investment, Trade and Industry Cabinet Secretary Kinyanjui said despite handling national assignment, he still puts the best interests of Nakuru at heart to ensure that the transformation he established remains alive.

“I have been a governor here, now serving in another national position, but you all know, wherever we go, we must remember home. I want to also say this, even when I am in the national government, Nakuru will always be first,” Kinyanjui said.

The CS served as Nakuru governor for one term between 2017 and 2022. He lost the seat to the current county boss, Susan Kihika, during the 2022 General Election.

It remains unclear whether he will seek to unseat Kihika in the 2032 elections.

Dualing of Rironi-Mau Summit Road

Kinyanjui, who joined government after the agreement between President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga, further revealed that one of the biggest projects the Kenya Kwanza administration is working on is the dualing of the Rironi-Mau Summit Road.

Kinyanjui said Nakuru county will be the biggest beneficiary of the project. He also pointed out that the government is currently negotiating a bypass through Nakuru city to help expand it and manage the traffic.

“The role of all of us is to pray for the leadership because it is not easy, and where things go wrong, it’s our responsibility to correct,” he said.

Importance of calm political environment in Kenya

He also expressed the need for a calm political environment in the country, even as the government seeks to expand trade and investment programmes with other African nations.

The Trade CS pointed out that neighbouring countries are struggling with democratic space and as such, Kenyans and political leaders should tread with caution in their discourses.

“I am amazed at how blessed we are as a country. I know you may not believe, we may have our differences, but we have our great country, and it’s our responsibility to know that our differences in politics should not make us destroy our country,” Kinyanjui said.

Kalenjin elders demand apology from Gachagua

Previously, TUKO.co.ke reported that a section of Kalenjin elders in Nakuru county asked former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua to issue a public apology.

The elders were responding to a controversial statement that Gachagua made in reference to the 2007/2008 post-election violence.

According to the elders, the statement was likely to hurt the feelings of those who witnessed the skirmishes.
