Are Kakamega hospitals well-equipped?

According to the legislator, the Kakamega health sector is under threat due to what he claimed was a lack of basic drugs and high fees imposed on patients.

The legislator claimed locals seeking service in county-run health facilities were being forced to buy a patient’s book, a move that has left many to shun seeking medical care.

He further urged the county boss either to resign or focus on fulfilling the pledges he made to the people during the 2022 campaign period.

"Mr Governor, your leadership is worrying because you've done nothing since you assumed office. Just resign and go home if you are unable to serve the people," Aseka said.

The MP also claimed roads under the county's jurisdiction in his constituency were in a pathetic condition.

Why Kakamega hospitals have no drugs

Responding to claims from the legislator, Governor Barasa blamed the lack of drugs in hospitals on the National Treasury’s delay in releasing funds meant for the purchase of the medical supplies.

He, however, affirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring every local has access to better healthcare.

Meanwhile, the Khwisero MP revealed that the national government is funding the construction of a level four hospital in the constituency, under the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) kitty.

"I thank President William Ruto for initiating a level Four hospital in my constituency. I also applaud him for commissioning several roads in my area. He is a true leader with focus. My people can now enjoy the fruits of the Kenya Kwanza government," Aseka said.

Fernandes Barasa and Boni Khalwale clash

Previously, TUKO.co.ke reported that Governor Barasa had rebuked Kakamega senator Boni Khalwale for re-opening a public toilet.

The county boss accused Khalwale of overstepping his mandate as per the Kenyan Constitution.

He also accused the legislator of focusing more on public stunts at the expense of service delivery to the people who elected him.

However, Khalwale hit back at the governor, accusing him of misuse of public funds and neglecting interests of persons with disabilities in the county.

Governor Barasa has been at loggerheads with several leaders in the county. His predecessor, Wycliffe Oparanya has since endorsed Ikolomani MP Bernard Shinali as his preferred candidate for the gubernatorial seat in the 2027 General Election.

Barasa is serving his first term after he was elected in 2022 on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket.
