This follows a tragic incident in which bees attacked 31-year-old Caleb Boit as he returned home from church on Sunday, May 11, 2025.
The family said that the young man lost his life while receiving treatment at the Nakuru County Teaching and Referral Hospital, where he had been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after he was stung by a swarm of bees.
According to the family, Boit, an engineer working at Jamii Telecommunications Limited (JTL), had already planned his life before it was cut short.
"He is such a young gentleman. He had not gotten married, but he was planning to, and for that he could not live to actualise his dreams,” said Wesley Bett, his uncle.
How bees attacked and killed Nakuru engineer
CCTV footage from a nearby building captured the deceased trying to wipe away the bees from his body and face before he started to develop dizziness.
His uncle said an autopsy done on the body indicated he had multiple stings all over the body, including eyelids, which led to the swelling of his lungs.
“Caleb died because of several stings and the toxins that were left behind by the bees. He developed a condition called pulmonary Oedema, according to the doctors, because of the swelling of the respiratory system; thus, the air could not reach the lungs to be supplied to the other parts of the body,” the uncle told journalists on Wednesday, May 14.
The autopsy also revealed that the young man had several seizures, which affected blood supply to the body system and the brain.
Silas Sikulu, a colleague at Jamii Telecommunications, said that the deceased has been an active worker and has generated many clients for the company.
Sikulu explained that when the deceased was attacked, there was nothing he could do to evade the catastrophe and good Samaritans who found him unconscious took him immediately to the hospital.
“We found Caleb in the ICU; we could not talk to him or get anything from him until Monday evening when he rested painfully,” he said.
Jamii Telecommunications Western Region Manager Wilson Setim said that the death had robbed them of a hardworking employee.

Nakuru County Chief Officer for Livestock, Michael Cheruiyot, said they have since dispatched officers to bring down the bees to avert more casualties.
“We received a report on Monday of the incident, and we managed to engage the owner of the plot, and we organised an exercise to bring down the bees,” Cheruiyot told TUKO.co.ke.
The family picked the body of their kin for burial in their parents’ rural home in Kericho county.
