He focused on challenging the late MP Charles Ong'ondo Were, who was serving his second term after being re-elected in the 2022 elections.

However, his ambitions have faced a setback after he was named a person of interest in the murder of the late Kasipul MP, sparking controversy.

After being summoned by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Aroko presented himself at the Gigiri Police Station, declaring that he had nothing to fear.

The politician blamed Homa Bay governor Gladys Wanga for his predicament, alleging she had contacted the police to summon him.

"I saw the governor pushing so much for me to be called here. She is even making calls to the police for me to be called here to make a statement. She has succeeded. I want to tell her that we are changing the politics from thuggery to a civilised one in that constituency," Aroko affirmed.

What is Aroko's plan for Kasipul constituency?

In an undated video, Aroko announced his candidacy for the Kasipul parliamentary seat. He further urged constituents to unite with him in improving the constituency.

The politician also suggested he would lobby for investments to drive development in the area if elected.

"I have many priorities, and education is one of them. We must unite our people. That is my number one priority: that people must come together. So 2027 is not going to be a normal race, it is going to be something serious," Aroko said.

Aroko said he intends to promote farming and offer guidance on local development.

The political aspirant is a committed member of the Raila Odinga-led Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

He has also been involved in the party's grassroots elections in Homa Bay county.

Did Aroko mourn Ong'ondo Were?

The political hopeful was among several politicians who joined the nation in grieving the death of the late Kasipul MP.

Aroko took to social media last week, urging the DCI to track down those responsible for the deadly shooting of Were.

He also shared his condolences with the bereaved family, offering prayers for their strength during this difficult time.

In a follow-up post, the politician shared a photo of himself shaking hands with the murdered parliamentarian, referring to him as a respected rival.
