The unexpected incident happened in Kehancha town as Ruto began giving his speech, forcing him to halt for a few minutes.
Ruto briefly paused his speech, which had been focused on reducing the cost of farming inputs for farmers in Kehancha.
The president's security team got hold of the perpetrators before they could escape the scene.
Ruto later proceeded with his speech and asked the police to release the suspects.
This shocking act has been condemned by local leaders and residents.
UDA woman leader Bevin Bhoke, speaking to TUKO.co.ke, termed the act regrettable and unfortunate to be happening in the Kuria community.
"On behalf of the Kuria community I apologise to the president for the misfortune and embarrassment that took place," Bhoke noted.
She stated that the Kuria are peace-loving people, and the perpetrators who committed the act should face the law.
Migori county UDA youth leader, Byron Ogiga, echoed her words, condemning the embarrassing occurrence.
"I condemn the act and with the strongest term possible, especially in a time when the Kuria community wants a county. Such acts can water away the goodies the president carried and hinder other goodies we are supposed to get," Ogiga said.
He also called for the perpetrators to be held accountable and to act as an example to others.

Was William Ruto heckled in Isiolo?
In other news, the Kenya Kwanza Alliance leader encountered a hostile crowd during his recent development tour of Isiolo county.
The head of state and his allies struggled to communicate their message as furious residents at the rally chanted anti-Ruto slogans on Friday, February 7.
Ruto tried to speak over the noise, claiming that foreign nationals were smuggling illegal drugs into the county and selling them.
This only escalated the heckling, with residents shouting "uongo," meaning "lies," after every statement from the determined president.
In an effort to calm the crowd, the president accused drug dealers of sending youths to disrupt his rally. Speaking in an angry tone, he stated that the heckling youths would not manage to threaten the government.
