Nairobi CBD was turned into chaos as running battles ensued between the police and citizens, something many thought would be avoided.

Ian Wafula stops police officers from attacking young ladies

In a video that has gone viral, two 'baddies' could be seen sitting on a staircase at a building in the CBD when they were approached by police officers.

They stood up and started walking away as the crowd of officers followed them, attempting to intimidate them.

Seeing this, Wafula moved closer to the ladies, seemingly sensing trouble, and in no time, a policeman approached the ladies and tried to strangle one of them using his whip.

He quickly moved in and stopped the policeman, who was then confronted by a colleague as the ladies ran for their lives.

The policeman could be seen grinning in delight, as if proud of his actions, but the ladies made sure to speak their minds..

From a distance, one of them shouted at officers, asking what they had done wrong and the reason for harassing them.

She stated that the two were just sitting on the staircase, harmless and not even protesting, but were still attacked, with the police aiming to instil fear in them.

"What's the problem? We are seated there and come to disturb us. Kujeni mniue," she said.

Here are some of the reactions from netizens after watching the clip:

@iammartinke said:

"Yaani police wamefanya our ladies to turn into baddies."

@lewisjoe00 said:

"Did he realise he was on camera, why is he smiling."

@WambuguKanyi said:

"That camera saved the day. That smiling ugly cop should be ashamed of himself. Am sure he is a parent. How would he feel if someone violated his children's rights."

@freelancekenyan said:

"Huyo amezuia mwenzake kuwanyonga na nyahunyo juu tu ya camera."

@marcoBLKN said:

"I think the government intentionally makes the mistake of arming illiterate fellas. They can be used for anything but productivity for the nation. This shows how brainless these pigs are. They are more ready to fight unarmed citizens than go to war to protect us."

@DuffleBagBwoi said:

"You and those young ladies are heroes. And I really mean that. Bless you man!"

@njerimn said:

"Why are they smiling, as if they have done something good? Shame on them. Do they deserve the name officers?"

Did Larry Madowo shield protestors from police officers?

CNN journalist Larry Madowo also warmed hearts after saving a group of frightened protesters from armed police officers.

In a clip shared by the celebrated journalist, the group had been cornered in a blocked alley by armed police officers when Larry, who was covering the live protests for CNN, appeared.

Upon asking what was going on, a protester explained how they were demonstrating peacefully when police cornered them. He narrated how they were beaten.

Another protester, who was still in shock, revealed they were peaceful, only armed with their phones.

Another frightened protester begged Larry not to leave them, saying they could be killed. The journalist then asked the armed police officer to let the group go.

The video has gone viral, with thousands of netizens applauding Larry for saving the innocent, peaceful protesters from the hands of the charged police officers.

Man spotted giving police soda and bread

In other news, despite the differences between the police and citizens, a man showed just how much kindness there is.

A video of the well-built man, riding a cart, was spotted handing bread and soda to police officers amid protests.

The man, who was also shirtless, sent a clear message of peace, showing how much he cares for the police despite the enmity that seems to have developed between them and the citizens.
