Albert Ojwang: CCTV Footage Contradicts DCI Amin's Account of Albert Ojwang's Murder
- DCI boss Mohamed Amin told a parliament committee that blogger Albert Ojwang was alive in the cell, specifically at 1:35 am
- But CCTV footage indicated that at that same moment, the blogger was arriving at Mbagathi County Hospital, carried lifeless at the back of the police vehicle
- Footage from the hospital has introduced a new perspective into the ongoing investigations, with eyes on IPOA on how it will navigate the probe with the CCTV facts
CCTV footage at Mbagathi County Hospital has quashed the account of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on the last moments of blogger Albert Ojwang.

While appearing before the National Assembly's departmental committee on internal security on June 12 to shed light on the murder, DCI boss Mohamed Amin presented the details of the Occurrence Book that captured the moments before and after Ojwang's death at Central Police Station.
What DCI boss Amin told parliament about Albert Ojwang
It was indicated therein that the deceased was brought in alive and in good health and was confined in a cell alone.
The OB, as read by Amin, indicated that Ojwang was booked at the station 35 minutes past 9 pm after he arrived in Nairobi with DCI officers who arrested him in Homa Bay.
He stayed in the cell for four hours, after which, according to the OB, he started making noise while kicking the wall of the cell, where he was said to have sustained the fatal injuries.
"An entry was made into the digital OB, and Constable Hilow, who did the entry, stated that at 1:35 am, two other PCs visited the cell and found Albert Ojwang, who was alone, making a lot of noise while kicking the cell wall," Amin read from the OB excerpt while confidently stating that it could not be manipulated.
Amin, who was speaking under oath, went on to reveal to the committee that they received a letter from Mbagathi County Hospital stating that Ojwang was brought to the facility at around 2 am, while already dead.
How Mbagathi CCTV annulled DCI Amin's account
The DCI boss might have spoken authoritatively, perhaps oblivious to the facts of time captured by the surveillance cameras at Mbagathi Hospital.

The timestamp on CCTV footage shows that at 1:35 am, Ojwang is being taken to the hospital, contrary to the DCI's account that at that exact time, he was making a lot of noise in the cell alone and kicking the walls.
Further, the timestamp of 2 am shows Ojwang, draped in a white cloth, being wheeled into the emergency wing while on a white stretcher bed, also contrary to Amin's explanation that it was at that time (2 am) that the police drove into the hospital.
The CCTV captured Ojwang and the officers at Mbagathi Hospital precincts for 40 minutes, as they entered at 1:35 am and left at 2:15 am.
The officers left with the deceased after the attending medics at the hospital confirmed he was brought in dead already.
The resident medical officer noted in his report that Ojwang was unresponsive, didn't have notable cardiac activity, and that his body was entirely cold.
