How did Albert Ojwang's father learn about his death?
As reported earlier, Meshack Opiyo, Albert’s father, emotionally narrated how his son was arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
Addressing the press outside Central Police Station, Opiyo broke down in tears as he recounted how police handcuffed Albert at their home while having lunch with the family after returning from the farm.
Opiyo claimed the detectives disclosed to him that Albert had abused one of their bosses on X (formerly Twitter).
He said the officer claimed his son had used social media to spread claims that their boss was corrupt.
Upon arrival in Nairobi on Sunday, June 8, officers at Central Police Station kept him waiting for hours, claiming they were taking roll call.
After several hours, Opiyo received the sad news at 10am that his son had died in hospital from self-inflicted injuries after hitting himself against the wall.
Opiyo cast doubt on the police’s claims, calling for an urgent investigation into the circumstances surrounding his son’s death.
The family lawyer also cast doubts on the statement by the police about the young social media user's death.
