Sonko said such "lawyers" are driven by passion, hence their impatience to go through years of training to be certified legal practitioners.

The politician spoke while celebrating the admission to the bar of a lady he once bailed out after she was busted practising law without proper documentation.

Why Brian Mwenda should be forgiven

Sonko came to the rescue of Sharon Atieno, who had been arrested and detained after she was found to have stolen a certified lawyer's identity to practise with it as her own.

He offered to help her go through school to properly acquire the status of a lawyer.

On May 23, two years after Sonko took over her matter, Sharon got admitted to the bar, becoming an Advocate of the High Court.

He said he would extend the same gesture to Brian Mwenda to help him finish law studies and rightfully become an advocate.

Mwenda was arrested and charged in 2023 after being found to practise law without credentials.

Sonko argued that such people need mentorship and support at the expense of prosecution in courts.

"LSK should not embarrass these young people seeking to be lawyers. We can join hands and support them. We can take them to the school of law. I want to appeal to the current LSK president, Faith Odhiambo; I am urging her to have mercy on the young lawyers and withdraw the case against them. We will support Brian Mwenda to finish his law studies. The young people are the future of this country," Sonko said.

Meanwhile, were it not for her resilience, Sharon might not have anticipated the day she officially joins the roll of advocates as a fully fledged law practitioner.

The woman hit the headlines for the wrong reasons in 2023 when she was caught in the dragnet of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK)'s operatives, who were undertaking a crackdown on lawyers using fake credentials in their practice.

How Sharon Atieno's woes came up

In their preliminary findings, the LSK asserted that Atieno had stolen the identity of a certified lawyer to practice with it as her own.

She was apprehended and detained at the Capitol Hill Police Station ahead of her arraignment; her case, however, disappeared from public scrutiny.

It now appears she went back to meticulously craft her own identity.

Former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko was one of the people who came to her rescue.

How did Sharon Atieno redeem herself?

Two years into her ordeal, Atieno returns to the limelight with an impeccable feat to show the world.

She was among the 609 advocates admitted to the bar on Friday, May 23.

Atieno celebrated the achievement with a flashback to the ugly phase of her life two years ago.

She was happy that she never surrendered to the humiliation in the face of a brutal public.

Atieno used her experience to motivate anyone held back by setbacks.

She also expressed gratitude to the few who showed up for her when her world was crumbling.

Atieno dedicated her new status to the service of others and the pursuit of justice for those in need of it.
