The outspoken politician has called on Kenyans across the country to rise to the occasion and showcase their acting abilities.

In a bold and energetic announcement that went live on his social media pages, Malala urged aspiring thespians, seasoned performers, and raw talent alike to take a shot at joining the cast of what he described as the hottest play in town.

"Audition, Audition, Audition! Yo yo, Echoes of War is the hottest play in town right now. And guess what? We're calling out all upcoming actors with that fire. If you're an actor, got stage vibes, and the confidence to own any role, this is your time to shine," said the narrator in a vibrant video posted to his pages.

How can Kenyans audition for Malala's play?

According to the former UDA party secretary general, auditions will be conducted digitally at first, running from April 22 to May 5.

The process is open to all Kenyans with a passion for theatre, storytelling, and the ability to command attention on stage.

Participants are to read the script, which is available on Malala’s TikTok page (@Cleomalala254), select a character they feel drawn to, and film a 30-second audition video in which they perform a section of the character’s dialogue.

Once the video is recorded, hopefuls are instructed to upload it, tagging @Cleomalala254 and @EchoesofWar254, for a chance to be shortlisted for the next stage.

"The script is up on TikTok, posted by @Cleomalala254. Take the dialogue of the character you dream to play, film a 30-second performance, and post it! Don’t forget to tag @Cleomalala254 and @EchoesofWar254. Auditions run from April 22nd to May 5th. Be the voice, be the vibe, be the echo," continued the video advert.

How is Malala's Echoes of War controversial?

The announcement comes at a time when Echoes of War has been the subject of public discussion and political attention.

Originally scripted for a performance by Butere Girls High School at the national drama festivals in Nakuru, the production faced criticism from President William Ruto's allies.

Chaotic scenes were witnessed in Nakuru as the students faced off against police officers while the playwright was detained.

However, the controversy only served to catapult the play into the national spotlight, raising curiosity and anticipation across the creative industry.

Rather than be derailed by the criticism, Malala used the momentum to turn Echoes of War into a nationwide theatrical movement.

Malala, who has a long background in drama, is no stranger to the arts and was the playwright in another stage play by Butere Girls.
