Victor Wanyama mourns mum with touching story
During his tribute, Victor shared a moving story about how his mother refused his request to return home due to homesickness.
According to Victor, in 2007, he joined an academy in Belgium, but he was too young to sign as a player.
He got a foster family to allow him to stay there, and after two years, he was homesick and wanted to return home.
He called his mother, hoping she would be ready to accept his request, but she turned him down, and his father was the same.
"I called mum, knowing that telling her I want to return, she would agree, but she refused and told me to stay (alikataa akasema wewe kaa huko ujikaze), adding that she was praying for me. I also tried my dad, but he refused, and now I thank them because, if it were not for them I wouldn't get to where I am," he said.
The former Spurs footballer added that despite her death, her spirit will always surround them and thanked the mourners for coming to comfort them.
Victor Wanyama's lovely message to his late mother
In the memorial pamphlets, Victor also shared how the late was more than a mother; she was also a friend and cheerleader.
He said that when he doubted himself, she believed in him and losing her left a silence in his world.
Victor added that even in her absence, she will always remain his guide, and her sacrifices will live in every step and goal he chases.
"You were more than a mother, you were my greatest friend and my loudest cheerleader. In moments when I doubted myself, you believed in me without question. Always being my calm in every storm. Losing you has left a silence in my world that words cannot fill, an emptiness that echoes in places only your presence used to reach. But even in your absence, your love surrounds me, and you will always remain my guide. Your faith in me, your lessons, your sacrifices, will live on in every step I take and every goal I chase. Thank you, Mum, for being my light in life, in love, and now, in memory. I miss you beyond words. Always and forever," he wrote.
