Kenyan businessman and founder of Grandpa Records, Refigah Heviweit, alias Yusuf Noah, has once again been recognised for his impeccable work in Africa's creative economy.

Which award did Refigah win?

In his latest and most distinguished achievement yet, Refigah was among 36 exceptional leaders across Africa feted with the Paul Kagame Transformational Leadership Medal of Honour at the 10th Edition of the Africa Institute of Public Administration (AIPA) held in Kigali, Rwanda.

The award recognises transformational leadership and impactful service to the continent.

A letter of nomination seen by TUKO.co.ke read in part:

“I am pleased to inform you that you have been nominated to receive the Paul Kagame Transformational Leadership Medal of Honour. On the 10th Session of the Transformational Leadership Summit at Olympic Hotel, Kigali. This nomination is due to your exceptional contributions and dedication in the society. We’ll be grateful if you can create time out of your busy schedule to honour this prestigious occasion and your presence will make a great impact."

In an exclusive with TUKO.co.ke, Refigah shared his reaction to the news.

“Overwhelmed with gratitude for the Paul Kagame Medal of Honour for Transformational Leadership. Truly humbled by this recognition. Grateful for the opportunity to serve and make a difference. God's time is always the best,” he said.

Which other award has Refigah received?

Refigah had recently received the esteemed Kwame Nkrumah Medal of Honour in Accra, Ghana.

The accolade celebrates individuals who have significantly advanced Africa’s creative economy through their work and impact.

What are Refigah's upcoming plans?

In a previous exclusive with TUKO.co.ke, Refigah addressed rumours about his political ambitions.

He dismissed claims that he was eyeing a political seat, insisting that his commitment to service goes beyond being a politician.

According to him, leadership is about continuously working for the people, regardless of titles or positions.

He maintained that his immediate plans revolve around addressing pressing issues in society.

What are Refigah's plans in the creative economy?

Additionally, the entrepreneur shared his perspective about the potential of Africa’s creative economy.

He explained that the creative industry is becoming a major employer in the world.

Refigah cited data from the United States where, he explained, arts and culture contributed millions of dollars to the GDP in 2022.

The businessman noted that that Africa remains underrepresented only benefiting from only a small share of the global creative economy.

He emphasised the need for the continent to transition from being consumers to producers in the creative space.

He also revealed that he is currently collaborating with various governments and organisations across Africa to develop structures aimed at transforming the continent’s creative industry.
